Oakrose Black Magic was the most beautiful horse I'd ever seen. When I first laid eyes on him I KNEW I couldn't live without him. He was that "perfect horse" I'd imagined so many times before. When I brought him home, I couldn't believe my good fortune! It had to be more than luck that brought this magnificent creature to my front pasture! Magic had charisma! He was one of those horses that either liked you or he didn't. If he did, you were his personal friend. If he didn't, you became his personal enemy. If you were riding Magic, you knew it was because he allowed it - not because you deserved it. He was a powerhouse who could drop you in one quick motion. If you made it into the saddle, you were good to go. If not, you were on the ground before you realized you didn't even get your other foot in the stirrup. He never tried to put me on the ground, but I saw him toss others like flies if he didn't think they should be up there. Magic was a wuss with the mares, letting them push him around. He was gentle and sweet with the foals. But he was the BOSS and went unchallenged as such for his full 20 years. Magic was so black he looked blue in the sunshine. He never faded or lost his luster. He was gorgeous right up to his last year when his legs were white all the way to the hip and shoulder and the dock of his tail was totally white. His mane and face were white, too. He looked like a different horse in color, but with the unmistakably correct conformation of Oakrose Black Magic. He never lost his charisma nor his zest for life. Colic claimed Oakrose Black Magic on December 19, 2008. Patsey Pennington |
