About  Clearwater Stables

Thank you for visiting Clearwater Stables and giving us the opportunity to show off our horses and tell you about ourselves and our "critters." And when you are in the neighborhood, drop by and visit! Our little piece of paradise is in the NW corner of Alabama in the Heart of Dixie!

When I was 5 years old, I asked my dad if I could have a horse. He asked me what I'd feed it, where it would live, and who would take care of it. I didn't know the answers, but I didn't give up. When I was 12, a friend offered me a pony for $50. I had babysitting money, so I was going to buy it. But again, the questions. And again, I didn't know the answers. When I was 21, I asked my fiancee' if we could have horses We were moving to a farm and he already had a horse- yay! (It was at his dad's farm since he just got out of the army.) And he said, yes!! But for 15 years, it was not to be. We lived in an apartment for 2 years and then in a trailer on our land for 3 years more until our house could be built. Our four beautiful children came along, and hubby leased our land to a cattle man to help pay the bills. And we rode bicycles! On Sunday afternoons we would mount our trusty bikes and ride thru shady gravel or paved roads in northwestern Alabama. When winter came, we parked the bikes and went on winter walks. Baby #4 was a year old and rode in a "buddy seat" on the back of my bike.

Then one day an ice storm took out our cattle barn! I asked if we could re-build a HORSE barn where the cattle barn had been - and hubby said YES! So now the question was, what kind of horse would we get? We both wanted a Morgan. But we didn't know where to begin to find one. So we bought what was around us - we had a beautiful black TWH with 4 white stockings and we had and a pony for the kids. And everyone learned to ride. We had two horses and 5 bikes, so we would trade out - 2 on horses and 3 on bikes when we went riding together.

We got an Alabama Farmers' Bulletin with an ad in it for Lippitt Morgans.....in Eva Alabama. Carol and Ray Potts had been raising Lippitt Morgans for a number of years and they were within driving distance of us! Also, Alice Strange in Springville, Alabama had an ad in the same paper. We had found Morgans at last. We bought our first Morgan - a 3 month old colt - for my 36th birthday. We brought him home in the back of our pickup truck with sideboards. "Bobby" turned 23 in March of this year. I gave him to our baby daughter when she turned 16. She is 25 this year, so they have truly grown up together. When Melissa was a teen, she would ride Bobby down to the creek, they would both go swimming, and she'd ride him back soaking wet and happy! See the two of them on Melissa's page!

Finally my dream had come true. Bobby and our daughter Melissa grew up together and now he is her very own horse.

Our little corner of the world in northwest Alabama is 35 acres of woods, pasture, and horses. Visitors are always welcome at Clearwater Stables!
